Acknowledgments:
I started this site in the fall of 1995, although at the time I had no idea that it would become a web page. It was a stat spreadsheet that was built for easier research capabilities; it had the top ten players in all the listed offensive categories. After several arguments about how Rey Ordonez is the worst starting player in baseball, I decided to convert my documents into HTML format and display it on my site. I was fortunate enough to find Sean Lahman’s http://www.baseball1.com site and tried to develop from there. Ten thousand players and several hours later this site was born. I hope that anyone who finds this site finds it to be a helpful resource in arguments about Sabermetrics.
Just a quick note to thank the following people:
Sean Lahman, Who provided valuable information and the inspiration of this site.
Mike Passamonte, Who constantly challenges my love and knowledge of Sabermetrics.
Jeff Meltzer, Who handles and consults on all technical aspects.
Kris Isaksson, Fellow Stat Rat. Who might actually like this site?
Mike Rezza and Arthur Smith III, My friends and baseball enthusiasts, this site truthfully started during our Micro-League summers.
Stacey Butterfield, my loving sister who first introduced me to the Yankees and to sports.
Traci Donnelly, My season ticket partner and loving sister.
Kathleen Kelly-Pomara, My wife who actually puts up with my "obsessions".
All have contributed in some way to the making of this humble resource.
